WEHI's Bioimage Analysis Core (BAC) is unique in Australia as a dedicated team of analysts embedded within a larger microscopy core. By offering training, support, and custom analysis pipelines to microscopy users, we endeavour to increase the value of the experiments and to lower the time between data generation and discovery. In this talk, I'll be presenting three projects that the BAC has been involved in this year. While the projects are separate, they are related in the concepts and insights that the BAC team bring to all of our work. Dealing with large microscopy datasets presents a myriad of challenges, which each project has specific ways of overcoming. Similarly, uncertainty and ambiguity are often inherent in microscopy of biological samples; these projects highlight the benefits of embracing the variability of image data, and using that to provide scientific insight. Finally, as a core facility, our goal is to build tools and pipelines that we can get into the hands of the experts - biological researchers - and to lower the barrier of entry for cutting edge tools and techniques.
