Exploring interaction in RNA-seq experiments
Luke GandolfoWEHI Bioinformatics
Factorial experimental designs (e.g. 2x2 and 2x2x2 designs) are occasionally encountered in RNA-seq studies. In these situations it becomes possible to investigate the phenomenon of interaction, i.e. when the effect of a factor depends on the level of the other factor(s).
This talk will consist of an extended discussion of two examples from recent collaborative work, where we'll review what interaction is, how to find it, how to visualise it, and why it's important. The talk also has two further aims: (1) to promote an intuitive way of approaching the analysis of factorial designs, and (2) to explain why it's always worth looking for interaction in such experiments (even if there's none there to be found).
