How to make a shotgun marriage last a lifetime.

Natalie Thorne
Melbourne Genomics

Back in 2001, bioinformatics was described as ‘a shotgun marriage of biology and computer science, lacking the engineering discipline to understand what a good implementation really means’. Has anything actually changed? Dr Natalie Thorne launched her bioinformatics career at WEHI in 1997. She’ll take you on the journey of creating and rolling out a world-first data platform for clinical genomics. Natalie will describe how the role of bioinformatics evolves from discovery to translation to implementation to sustainability. You’ll hear real-world challenges, inventive solutions and brutally honest insights. This talk is for anyone thinking about taking a bioinformatics application to scale.
