Research Activities:

Before joining the WEHI, Toby studied Science Engineering at Monash University, majoring in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. After completing the Science requirements, he went on to complete Honours in Computer Science, and, after a brief hiatus, a Masters which involved producing a new programming language named Decaf, which was a fusion between Concurrent Logic Programming and Java with the aim of proving the applicability of an abstract model of confluent concurrent programming to imperative languages.

Toby then worked for Inpharmatica for 2.5 years, where he wrote and maintained various pieces of code including a reimplementation of the psiblast algorithm aimed at providing higher throughput searching of protein databases whilst also serving as a robust basis for research into improvements to the basic algorithm.

At the WEHI, Toby's job will be to provide sequence based bioinformatics support to the Infection and Immunity Division.
