Research Activities:

Mauro's interest is in tackling questions relevant to the understanding of biological phenomena and to biomedical applications using mathematical and statistical models and computational methods.
He received his Ph.D. in Statistics for research in developmental biology (homeobox gene AbdB in Drosophila melanogaster) and his Masters in Statistics with a thesis on prediction of coiled-coil domains in protein sequences with a hidden Markov model (Marcoil).
Currently he's working on hidden Markov models in sequence analysis; on concrete database searching and sequence analysis methods and on statistical approaches for (microarray) data analysis.
