Untangling mixed infections in Mycobacterium tuberculosis whole genome sequencing

Jacob Munro
WEHI Population Health & Immunity

Mixed M. tuberculosis infections arise from multiple transmission events to a single host and have been observed in populations with higher incidence rates of TB. Different strains of M. tuberculosis possess different antibiotic resistance profiles and pathogenicity ; and as such ; accurate detection of mixed infections can impact treatment decisions and clinical outcomes. Here we propose a novel method for detection of mixed infections from WGS data ; and provide benchmarking against existing methods.
