Negotiating the Labyrinth of the Linear Genome

Chris Woodruff
WEHI Bioinformatics

The linear genome has many different biologically-relevant features scattered along it. Feature distributions do not appear to be amenable to simple descriptions ; but having valid descriptions would be valuable. This talk will outline work being undertaken in an attempt to get such a description. In particular ; details will be presented on features such as homopolymers ; 3-mers (including codons) ; 5 methyl cytosine methylation ; and SNPs. The talk will also cover the likely importance of segmentation for this program of work ; with specific focus on the work of Bickel et al.(2010) that ; inter alia ; supported the ENCODE project.
