Using single cell RNA-Seq profiles to study heterogeneities in mouse mammary gland

Yunshun Chen
WEHI Bioinformatics

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has become a widely-used technique that allows researchers to profile the gene expression and study molecular biology at the cellular level. It provides biological resolution that cannot be achieved with conventional bulk RNA-seq experiments on cell populations. On the other hand ; scRNA-seq data are much noisier than bulk RNA-seq data due to difficulties in sequencing low amounts of RNA from single cells. Different strategies are required to deal with this noise during analysis. In this talk ; I will first discuss the existing approaches for scRNA-seq analysis ; including the methods in quality control ; clustering and differential expression analysis. Then I will present a case study on scRNA-seq profiles of mouse mammary gland. I will demonstrate how we studied cell-to-cell heterogeneity and identified new subpopulations using the scRNA-seq technique.;;;;
